Introduction:

A brief overview of the importance of mechanical engineering and mechanical engineers in various industries.

Due to its broad application, mechanical Engineering plays a vital role in many industries. Many industries require mechanical engineering e.g. Automobile, Energy, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Construction, Biomedical, Electronics, Agriculture, Environmental conservation, etc.

Mechanical engineers are required for every industry where the science is applied. To design, develop, and manufacture the physical products we require the expertise of mechanical engineers.

Purpose of the survey: 

To understand the current scenario of mechanical engineering students and working professionals.

To understand the problems in the education system of engineering colleges in India. Whether they find any practical application to theoretical studies in the colleges and universities. To understand their mentality while choosing to enter this field and what is the current status of their career.  

Methodology

The survey is designed as a Form in the Google Form to be filled out by the targeted audience. The forms contain linear scale and multiple choice questions to gain the required insights. After that the form link is distributed using our company’s social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, Facebook groups, and WhatsApp groups, we also use email marketing to send the bulk email to our customers and vendors of the company. 

Our target audience is Mechanical engineering students and working professionals in the mechanical industry.

  1. On a scale of 1 to 10, how influential were your interests and passions in choosing mechanical engineering as your field of study or profession?
  2. Please rate the quality of your mechanical engineering education at your college/university on a scale of 1 to 10.
  3. How often did you feel adequately supported by your professors and mentors during your mechanical engineering education?
  4. Did you find the practical application of theoretical concepts in your mechanical engineering curriculum?
  5. How much external pressure or influence did you feel in choosing mechanical engineering as your field of study or profession?
  6. Rate your satisfaction with the job market and career prospects for mechanical engineers in India
  7. For Students: Which area within mechanical engineering are you most interested in pursuing as a career?
  8. For working professionals: How satisfied are you with your current role and industry in mechanical engineering?
  9. For students: How confident are you about finding suitable employment opportunities in your chosen field of mechanical engineering upon graduation?

According to the survey results, a significant majority, around 70% of respondents, rated the quality of education at their mechanical engineering colleges or universities as 6 or below. This indicates that most individuals perceive their institutions’ educational standards as subpar. Conversely, only 20% of participants expressed satisfaction, rating their educational experience as excellent. This suggests a notable dissatisfaction among a majority of respondents regarding the quality of mechanical engineering education provided by their respective institutions.

The findings concerning professor support highlight another area of concern within mechanical engineering programs. The fact that 20% of students reported never receiving support from their professors is alarming.

Additionally, the low percentages of students receiving occasional (12%) or full (11%) support from their professors indicate a lack of consistent academic guidance and mentorship within these programs.

While a significant portion (34%) reported receiving support sometimes, this suggests an inconsistent support structure that may hinder students’ academic progress and overall learning experience.
